Step off the beaten path and into a weekend built for adventure, connection, and community. Rocky Road Weekend is more than just a running and hiking event — it’s an opportunity to challenge yourself, explore breathtaking trails in the Hex River Valley Mountains, and share the journey with others who love the outdoors as much as you do.
From sunrise runs to sunset laughter, this is a space where nature, movement, and people come together. Whether you’re chasing your personal best, enjoying the trails at your own pace, or simply looking for a weekend away surrounded by mountains and good company, Rocky Road Weekend is the place for you. Join us for three days of trails, fresh air, and unforgettable memories. Adventure is always better when shared. Rocky Road is a unique weekend adventure, forcing roadies to slow down and enjoy the trails, and trail goats to test their speed limits on the road. As the name suggests, it includes both technical rocky mountain trails and easy flat road. |

ROUTE INFORMATION
Winding through the rugged beauty of the Klipheuwel Farm landscape, the trails offer a little bit of everything — and a lot of character. From flowing jeep tracks that weave through the vineyards to steep mountain ascents and technical descents that test your focus, every section brings a new rhythm. Runners and hikers alike will experience soft river sand underfoot, rocky ridgelines, and the occasional stretch of cement strip to catch your breath.
It’s a course built for exploration — raw, scenic, and ever-changing — where every climb and turn reminds you why the adventure begins where the road gets rocky.

Saturday Mountain Adventure
TAWARA TRAIL (17KM) OR KELEBONE CATTLE TRAIL (10KM) Tawara Trail
The Tawara trail is the most challenging of the Klipheuwel Farm trails. With two steep climbs you can expect this trail to take an average of 5 - 6 hours to hike (with regular photo breaks) and 2.5 - 3.5 hours for the average trail runner. Kelebone Cattle Trail Easy 10km trail, with farm roads, single tracks, cement strips, river sand and the possibility of spotting the beautiful, but aloof, Nguni cattle that call this "kloof" home. This trail is perfect for the less experienced runner or hiker, with no technical ascents or descents. |
Sunday Deload
ROAD LESS ROCKYA winding path of cement strips lead runners through the gentle curves of the Sandriftkloof, where silence meets the engineering genius of the Roode Elsbergdam. It’s a trail of rhythm and reflection — the kind that reminds you why you love the open road.
The ease of road with the beauty of trail. |
