DAY 1 - "Klein Tafelberg"The Hexpas Railway was built in the 1870’s, with “Tonnel Stasie” as one of its stops. The railway is not in use anymore and little remains of the original station.
This hike will start at the historical Tunnel Station, where you will see the remains of what once was a camp site, not too long ago. From there it is a short but relatively tough hike (about 3kms) to the top of Little Table Mountain. The last 100 meters will require a bit more climbing and agility, but once at the top, the 360° view will leave you speechless. On a clear day you can see all the way to Rooihoogte, the mountain pass between Touwsriver and Montagu, 1234m above sea level. Afterwards you will be treated to an amazing brunch at a local coffee shop. |
DAY 2 - The Ochre TrailThe Ochre Trail is a gorgeous hiking trail with an amazing view of the entire Hex River Valley. This trail is part of the Ochre Reserve, a private piece of mountain property, preserved for the ancient rock paintings which are still clearly visible on some parts of the trail.
This is not a hike that should be rushed but rather a hike that should be enjoyed. Take your time to immerse yourself in nature. Have a snack at one of the many tranquil ancient sites; Enjoy the restorative energy that being in nature brings. There are many trails on the Ochre Reserve, most of which are made by animals, so this hike could vary in distance and elevation. This hike is only a stone throw away from the guest house, where brunch will be waiting upon your return. |
